In 2011, my wife Amy and I launched our first self-published magazine, Grey-Bruce Kids, out of our spare bedroom, to support other families in the community, with Amy taking the role of Publisher, while I serve as Editor. In 2014, we launched Grey-Bruce Boomers – a free magazine for adults 50+ – and followed that up with Huron-Perth Boomers in 2016, which serves Huron and Perth counties. Each magazine is quarterly, with 5,000 copies picked up in high-traffic locations across the region. New Zealand, Australia, Etc.

Shortly after getting married to his high school sweetheart Amy, the Irwins sold all their belongings (including their house!), filled backpacks and tramped for eight months across New Zealand, Australia and Malaysia, with quick stops in London, Paris and Barcelona. The oldest backpackers on the scene at the advanced age of 25, we found the adventure we were seeking in New Zealand when skydiving and navigating waist-deep waters of underwater caves by light of glowworm, camping under the stars in Australia's Outback, diving the Great Barrier Reef or crawling through bat caves in the Malaysian jungle. Though children followed, the traveller-spirit remains in the family as we took a year off work/school starting in July 2019 and toured western Canada, London, Paris, Kenya, Bali, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka over the next 8+ months. Our year-long world tour was ended early by the COVID-19 pandemic, as we returned home in March 2020.
