Primary responsibilities were analyzing credit trends and scoring information for loan portfolio with the purpose of evaluating and controlling credit risk, creating reports necessary to understand changes in portfolio risk mix and trends in customer behaviour, provide analysis on assigned risk projects, such as, risk-based pricing, the evaluation of new account cut-offs and credit limit strategies. Additionally, I was also responsible for providing direction, training, and guidance to less experienced Credit Risk Analysts and leading projects or special assignments as required.Challenges included being responsible for staffing and training individuals in highly a technical area to meet the demands of the unit. Notable successes included building a highly motivated and competent team, leveraging in house risk & pricing models and databases to develop in house credit pre-approval models to drive millions of dollars in sales of loans and credit cards.

I was accountable for designing and developing credit risk rating models (PD - Probability of Default, LGD- Loss given default), loan and credit card application processing, collections/workout models, pricing models, credit card limit adjustment models, quantitative and qualitative credit risk assessment for retail and SME portfolios as well as conducting statistical analysis e.g. multiple regression analysis, sample size determination, testing of hypothesis. Data mining techniques include - CHAID, Clustering for Behavioural Segmentation.I joined NCB during the transition back to its core business of financial inter-mediation after the Government of Jamaica negotiated a series of debt restructuring with bondholders. This transition required significant changes to its credit operations which required sound leadership and a good grasp of change management techniques.Success included reducing the turnaround time between application and disbursement to three (3) work days, from ten (10) and reduced portfolio bad rate to 3.8 per cent from 5.6 per cent within the first 18 months.
