As a principal and the CEO of Eagle Cap Software, I lead the growth of Eagle Cap from three employees in 2015 to more than 30 and over $6M in revenue. Eagle Cap leveraged our team's extensive software development experience to build and maintain innovative software for our aviation consulting customers, while investing heavily in the development of our own Aviation Charting, Moving Map/EFB, and Flight Planning and Dispatch applications. In December 2020, those applications were sold to eTT Aviation.

Led a multi-disciplinary development organization of as many as 73 technology professionals responsible for delivering aviation charting, planning, and moving map software for the commercial, business, general, and military aviation markets. Included responsibility for teams developing software in C++/MFC, C, C#/WPF, Java, JavaScript, and Objective-C for the mobile (Android and iOS), web, airborne, and desktop (thick and thin client) environments. * Served as the site leader with General Manager responsibilities for Jeppesen's Wilsonville, Oregon office, home to over 60 professionals. * Ensured architectural and technology decisions supported the company vision and strategy while minimizing long-term technical debt. * Drove an effort to move existing products off legacy code bases to reduce maintenance costs and enable leveraging ongoing development to provide marketable features in existing products. * Managed a $10M+ development budget.* Reduced costs by developing solutions to move data delivery to the cloud, saving infrastructure costs.* Partnered with business leaders to coordinate technology and product roadmaps, driving alignment and reducing long-term maintenance costs through consolidation of products.* Brought together previously territorial development teams to design and collectively build the next generation core charting technology that is strategically critical to Jeppesen’s long-term vision.* Transitioned development teams from a RUP-based development approach to an agile development process.Product Responsibility: Mobile FliteDeck, Mobile TC (iOS and Android), e-Link for Windows, eCharts for Windows, Online ChartViewer, e-Link Online, JeppView, Jeppesen Enroute Application (EAA), Boeing Enroute Application (BEA), Military Moving Map (MMM), Jeppesen Service Update manager (JSUM), INDS, JetPlanner, MilPlanner, Advanced Air Refueling Application, FliteDeck 3, FliteStar, and MyFlitePlan Online.

Lead a development team responsible for concurrently designing, developing, and deploying multiple COTS and customized software applications for the commercial and military aviation markets. * Recruited, hired, trained, and managed a multi-discipline software development team.* Managed a $4M development budget. * Managed ongoing maintenance releases for multiple C++/MFC based products that cumulatively facilitate over $18M in revenue. * Developed program vision and estimates for three new products. Once approved, actively managed the development projects through their full cycle including specification, design, implementation, test and release. * Initiated and managed a three-year, $600K Boeing funded R&D project, leading to an approved and fully funded product development project initiated in 2006. * Lead the design and engineering of the next-generation, scalable, plug-in based framework that is revolutionizing the development and deployment of Jeppesen desktop and airborne moving map products to the commercial and military markets. * Established “best practices” for software development projects within the development team. Supervised the implementation of a company-sponsored RUP-based development process to new and existing development projects, while focusing on applying the appropriate level of process to projects based on their individual requirements. * Provided technical sales support critical in securing major contracts with numerous customers including the Japanese Defense Force, Royal Australian Air Force, Royal Netherlands Air Force, Royal Air Force and Canadian Air Force.* Participated as a key capture team member for multiple $100K - $300M RFP responses, creating and editing technical content for RFP responses, teaming agreements, and internal authorization documents.

Managed the development of a client-server based flight planning and chart display system that facilitated over $10M in annual revenue, and is still employed by well over a hundred airlines, air forces, and large corporate aircraft operators throughout the world. * Managed the development of JetPlanner, a C++/MFC-based client-server application from concept/initiation through maintenance. Successfully delivered more than a dozen follow-on maintenance releases.* Analyzed and translated customer requirements into functional specifications through interaction with customers and product management.* Supported product management in defining product strategy, leading change control board meetings, and prioritizing development for each release.* Coordinated with product management, account management, and technical support to ensure a smooth transition from development to release.* Validated reported product defects and assigned to the appropriate developer. * Developed technical documentation: user manuals, electronic help files, technical support manuals, and requirements documents.

I was hired to lead the establishment and growth of a new division within Jeppesen tasked to leverage the company’s core aviation charting and moving map technology and expertise into the marine navigation market. I was initially responsible for leading the design and development of MarineMap, a new marine navigation product. Once the initial product was developed, my focus shifted to marketing and sales as well as growing the product line.* Managed the MarineMap development project throughout the project lifecycle – from initiation through maintenance. Delivered multiple maintenance releases. * Established a relationship with customers to better understand their needs and translated those needs into specific requirements and functional specifications for software engineering.* Developed technical documentation: user manuals, electronic help files, technical support manuals, and requirements documents.* Created marketing plans and product strategy related to pricing, advertising promotion, distribution, sales, support, and future product direction for Jeppesen’s marine products. * Identified and negotiated strategic partnerships and teaming agreements with competitors, dealers, and synergistic marine companies. These relationships lead to a competitive advantage and increased market visibility for Jeppesen Marine products. * Orchestrated numerous new product introductions and upgrade releases including development, release, distribution, promotion and support.* Developed and presented business plans to management, obtaining approval and funding for new product initiatives.* Built and cultivated retail distribution channels and implemented a direct marketing campaign.* Worked with large retailers to provide POP displays and sales tools to help their associates effectively sell sophisticated and complex software.* Managed the P&L for the Jeppesen marine product lines.* Organized and participated in numerous marine trade shows.

As a paid internship that was extended to complete the project, I researched the viability of an “add-on” product for an established multimedia software application targeting the K-12 education market. I developed a project proposal, presented the proposal to management, and ultimately directed the development efforts of in-house developers and an outside consultant. Co-authored and illustrated the product documentation.
