My main responsibility is developing and maintaining our SaaS web app, www.nettoolkit.com.• Backend development – The backend is a series of Java microservices with PostgreSQL and ClickHouse for the databases for persistence. I mainly write business logic, create tests, optimize database queries, scale the app vertically/horizontally, and assemble hardware components for new physical servers.• Frontend development – The web frontend is a React + TypeScript app with SASS for styling. I design and build new features, configure our webpack build system, and make decisions about direction (such as the decision to adopt React and TypeScript).• DevOps – I set up, develop, and maintain various components necessary to keep our service running smoothly, including monitoring with OpenTelemetry, our Git repository, SSL certificates, deployment tools, and development tools.• Mentoring – As team lead, I've been in charge of helping new hires, answering questions, and checking their work.

Similar to my position in Kawagoe, I worked as an assistant English teacher in Tokyo at 3 different junior high schools and 1 elementary schools.

My job was to assist junior high school teachers in making and teaching lessons, proofread articles for the Kawagoe Newspaper, and run and design seminars for other English teachers. I learned a lot about teaching English as a foreign language, Japanese culture, and the Japanese school system.

I had two main objectives for this job. First, I set up search terms for the company intranet. Second, I called up around 70 store operators and walked them through setting up a gmail account since the company was switching over.

I oriented new Japanese exchange students to life in the United States, organized events for students, and helped them practice English.

I was responsible for the safety and wellbeing of Japanese students in my section, organized weekly events, coordinated and supervised a week long volunteer trip, and helped students practice conversational English.
