At Candid (formerly Foundation Center) I help foundations tell their story, providing the tools and talent that make 250+ clients more productive - and more effective. At bottom, I believe good communication and knowledge sharing are the secret sauce of philanthropy.I have been designing online solutions for foundations and nonprofits for nearly two decades. My user experience-driven work can be seen in the intuitive and highly functional websites of some of the nation’s largest foundations, as well as scores of smaller grantmakers.Today, more than 250 foundation clients - with combined assets of more than $4 billion and annual giving topping $500 million - continue to rely on me and my team to help them put their best foot forward.I created Candid's Glasspockets website in 2010, and today am lead content developer for the sector's central source on best practices in foundation transparency, overseeing the development of interactive, user-friendly tools and data visualizations. In 2014 we were recognized as a Webby finalist, and among the year's top 100 nonprofit websites.A writer long before I was a programmer, I am editor for the Glasspockets feature, Eye on the Giving Pledge - exploring the philanthropy of the world’s wealthiest - and an active book-review contributor to Philanthropy News Digest's Off the Shelf.With a BA from SUNY Binghamton, I’m also ABD in American History from the College of William & Mary. Along the way I’ve been a graduate fellow at the National Archives, a project manager on Madison Avenue, a producer of Off-Broadway theater, a communications director for a NYC Council campaign, a ditch digger, a bartender, and a solidly mediocre marathoner.
