As a bioinformatics scientist, I play a collaborative role working with biologists to achieve certain experimental ends. If you're a biologist who has a genomics-driven research question, then I can design you a pipeline to process and analyze your data. I have experience working with most major genomics databases, API, command line tools and sequencing technologies. After coding for 4 years in my undergraduate experience, I joined Dr. Mira Han as her PhD student in bioinformatics, where I not only assisted her with many projects, but also found several collaborators whose research questions provided invaluable experience using new bioinformatics softwares. This has accumulated to nearly 10 years of programming experience. Not only am I technically proficient in R, python, and bash, I have built an online database, taught beginner bioinformatics workshops, and designed cluster computing environments with singularity. I also have experience in multithreading optimization, machine learning, API calls, and other high-level programming skills. However I bring more to the table than the ability to code, I am also an excellent communicator. I believe my diverse academic background (especially in philosophy) has allowed me to sharpen my skills as a collaborator due to my exposure working with a wide array of data in a variety of fields. Communication amongst scientists is an often underappreciated step in the scientific process, yet working in bioinformatics has taught me that it is essential to delivering precise and reproducible results.I am looking forward to a career working with established collaborators and expanding my skill set even further. The prospect of being able to interact with an even more diverse catalogue of scientists excites me, as well as large multidisciplinary efforts that allow me to learn quickly and synthesize information.
