Applications Engineering Intern
As an Applications Engineering Intern, I played a key role in advancing ESI's laser-based drilling tools from a minimal viable product (MVP) to a state nearing commercialization. My work involved demonstrating the system's capabilities, pushing it to its limits, and identifying areas for refinement to ensure readiness for the market. This hands-on experience was complemented by my academic work, where I completed a master's degree in applied physics and authored three academic papers based on my internship.Key Skills and Accomplishments:- Contributed to the development and refinement of laser-based drilling tools from MVP to near-commercialization.- Extensive experience with pulsed and continuous wave CO2 lasers, as well as pico-second and nano-second UV lasers.- Conducted process development on a wide range of ESI's current and future product offerings.- Studied laser-material interactions with ultra-short pulse lasers.- Gained experience using scanning electron microscopes (SEM) and focused ion beam (FIB) for data collection.- Performed vision-based metrology, incorporating python scripting to streamline data collection and processing.- Operated ESI's drilling tools and verified process quality using advanced imaging techniques.- Prepared and presented customer-focused slide decks internally, demonstrating the capabilities of laser drilling tools.
Undergraduate Student
- Aided peers through collaboration to design and align free space to fiber coupler for infrared and visible light, achieving a coupling efficiency of over 80%.- Facilitated precise observation and analysis of lasing capabilities within a specific cavity configuration by collaboratively constructing a Fabry-Perot interferometer, adeptly transforming an open cavity Helium-Neon laser into a highly effective spectrum analyzer.- Enabled continuous laser operation at 1550 nm by assembling and rigorously testing a CW Erbium-Doped fiber ring laser, ensuring no self-pulsing for improved stability and precision for use in spectrum analysis.
Physics Tutor
- Prepare tutorials sets of 10 problems related to the course.- Help tutor over 100 students every week over the course of 4 hours.- Assisted with outreach to recruit more Physics tutors.
Machine Learning Engineer (Via Research Experience For Undergraduates [Reu])
- Successfully modernized a model city's Water Distribution System (WDS) by developing and implementing 700+ lines of Python code, elevating functionality to an updated and improved model.- Empowered small communities with a more comprehensive understanding of their infrastructure by developing and deploying a powerful machine learning algorithm, achieving up to 75% accuracy in predicting diameters of unknown/suspected pipes within the Water Distribution System (WDS).- Secured over $20,000 in funding by generating impactful preliminary results, showcasing achievements to Sandia National Labs and paving the way for further research continuation.- Proactively organized a collaborative environment by facilitating weekly meetings which enabled open and engaging discussions and collective brainstorming sessions.
Kitchen Food Server
- Worked 40 hours per week in a nursing home kitchen.- Prepared meals for 100+ residents and staff members on a daily basis.- Won Employee of the Month honors in July of 2019.
Assembly Specialist
- Worked 50+ a week assembling hoses and other equipment.- Learned how work in a warehouse and use equipment in the assembly process.- Became proficient in the manufacturing process with over 500 hours of experience.
