The mission of the Naval Meteorology/Oceanography Officer is to reduce the uncertainty of the natural environment of Naval warfare. Surface Analyst and Marine Meteorologist within the Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch of the National Hurricane Center. Evaluate the current state of the atmosphere using surface and upper air observations, satellite data, and numerical modeling to produce the operational Tropical Surface Weather Analysis. Coordinate with the Weather Prediction Center, the Ocean Prediction Center, and the Honolulu Weather Forecast Office to create the National Weather Service Unified Surface Analysis. Support mariners in the eastern Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea with warnings and forecasts of the ocean and atmosphere. Provide tailored impact-based decision support services to the United States Coast Guard and international partners during hurricanes and other significant weather events. Provide marine weather briefings to the public. Utilize social media to help inform the public of marine hazards. Update the Mariner’s Weather Log to provide a historical record of marine weather events to the maritime and research communities.Wrote the Mariner's Tropical Cyclone Guide to help ships avoid hurricane encounters at sea and in port.
