I study at the university of Newcastle doing a Bachelor of Science, majoring in earth science. I’ve always loved geoscience and geography; I’ve made great efforts to nurture my curiosity and develop a passion for earth sciences. I’m working tirelessly to enter the mining or consultancy industry after my studies as a geologist or environmental remediator. A step towards my passion was to reach out to an environmental consultancy company where I was able to get experience in the field. I went to a coal mine in the Hunter, this experience progressed my planning skills where I was tasked with creating a site map for the visit. I developed my planning skills by studying the site and merging a previous field observation note pad. My mentor was very impressed with the attention to detail of the map and as a result we found sufficient evidence to prevent us from signing off on the project.For almost 4 years I’ve worked in hospitality, this has provided me with the opportunity to develop core skills that I can apply to my future career. My role requires me to be confident and flexible in a fast-paced workplace. I’ve had to work diligently over my employment to develop my leadership skills to take the next step in my career. To do this I questioned my mangers to understand the responsibilities and expectations of a leader in our challenging work environment. As a result of my work ethic and initiative, I developed my leaderships skills to earn a spot amongst the entrusted and valued members of our leadership team.
