Principal Investigator/Research BiologistU.S. Army Devcom Chemical Biological Center Jul 2023 - PresentMaryland, United StatesI am the principal investigator on multiple R&D projects related to the characterization of emerging chemical and biological threats that face the United States. This relies on a spectrum of disciplines including but not limited to aerobiology, bioengineering, molecular biology, and toxicology. -
Adjunct ProfessorThe Johns Hopkins University Jul 2022 - PresentBaltimore, Maryland, United StatesLecturer at The Johns Hopkins University Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts & Sciences Advanced Academic Programs. Lecture for courses related to Biological & Chemical Threat Response & Forensics. -
Research Chemist/Principal InvestigatorDefense Threat Reduction Agency Jan 2022 - Jul 2023Fort Belvoir, Virginia, United StatesMy work is a matrix position through DEVCOM CBC's threat agent sciences division while maintaining DTRA's focus as a combat support agency with the sole objective to counter and deter weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and emerging threats. My focus is on researching and developing deterrents for countering chemical and biological WMD while also evaluating emerging threats pertaining to chemical and biological WMD. -
Molecular Toxicology Postdoctoral ResearcherOak Ridge Institute For Science And Education Sep 2021 - Jan 2022Edgewood, Maryland, United StatesServed as a research scientist within the U.S. Army's Molecular Toxicology Branch's Predictive Toxicology program. I perform various types of analyses to collect and analyze multiple endpoints of various in vitro systems to include (but not limited to) engineered cell lines, human and other primary cell lines, iPSC derived stem cells, and/or microphysiological systems (or chip-systems) and analyze by microscopy, plate-reader assay, electrophysiology, protein quantification, or other endpoints. These data are used in assessing toxic mechanism of action of benchmark compounds and other compounds of interest and may be used in risk assessments of these compounds that potentially are provided to various end-users. Understand principals of toxicological studies, how to perform risk assessments, and basic methods for translating in vitro and invivo non-human data into human relevant equivalent exposure conditions. -
Postdoctoral FellowUniversity Of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Aug 2020 - Sep 2021Aurora, Colorado, United StatesMy work is in the Skaggs school of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences in an immunotoxicology laboratory focusing on mast cells and their impact on pathologies, chemical warfare agents, and biology. One project is elucidating the mechanisms of non-IgE mast cell activation by environmental particulates and examining environmental mechanisms of non-IgE mast cell activation in individuals with chronic idiopathic urticaria. In addition, my work is examining the therapeutic efficacy of a bacteriophage based immunotherapeutic in bladder cancer. -
Phd CandidateUniversity Of Denver Aug 2015 - Aug 2020Greater Denver AreaMy research was focused on how physiological labile zinc dynamics affect cellular trafficking within the cell. Throughout the course of my Ph.D. I have passed both qualifying exams on the first attempt, completed all the required courses with a 3.91 GPA, in addition taken/audited a plethora of not required courses such as a symbolic logic math course, a Matlab computer programming course, quantum chemistry and physics courses, advanced organic chemistry courses, thermal physics, and neurobiology courses. I have aided in the foundation of starting up a new laboratory with a new PI as well as started up a chapter of the biophysics society at the University of Denver acting as the president of the chapter. During my tenure as a Ph.D. candidate I have mentored multiple undergraduate students, training them on biophysical, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques as well as aiding them in conceptual understanding of problems and procedures. In addition with the undergraduates in the lab I have assisted with their senior thesis projects design. Most importantly I have advanced my ability as a research scientist to conduct reproducible experiments of my design oriented to build support towards my hypothesis. -
Athletic And Chemistry Department TutorUniversity Of Denver Sep 2016 - May 2020Greater Denver AreaFacilitated student athletes and students with learning disabilities in the subject areas of chemistry and physics. Adapted to communicate effectively and efficiently with people from vastly different backgrounds and learning perspectives to enable effective learning environments. -
Graduate Teaching AssistantUniversity Of Denver Sep 2015 - May 2019Denver Metropolitan AreaTaught courses for both the chemistry and biology department. Responsible for setting up the laboratories and teaching the students in the labs to facilitate with the lecture portions of the courses. The courses I have taught are instrumental analysis, analysis of equilibria systems, cell structure and function, physiological systems I & II, genetics, non-majors chemistry, & lecturer for cell structure and function and introductory biology for incoming biology majors -
Graduate Research AssistantUniversity Of Denver Jun 2017 - Aug 2018Greater Denver AreaWorked with PI on starting up a brand new laboratory and laboratory team. Supervised and instructed undergraduate students in advanced chemistry/biology/biophysical principles and the functioning of laboratory equipment/instruments. I performed research related to my thesis topic including designing and optimizing a new genetically encoded intensiometric zinc sensor & utilizing this new zinc sensor for my thesis research project. Also performed acted as lab manager performing duties such as maintaining chemical stocks, plasmid and sensor inventories, maintenance and repair of confocal fluorescence microscope. -
