Being an in-house consultant allows you to wear a variety of hats. Between coordinating community outreach, youth engagement and day-to-day programmatic tasks, I now have a closet full of them. The underlying theme of everything we do is outreach and education. As tours coordinator for the City of San Diego's Pure Water Program, I am responsible for coordinating tailored tours of our demonstration facility for those interested in learning about indirect potable reuse and what that means for San Diego. These groups range from grade school classes “getting their feet wet” with new concepts to college classes looking to learn about degree specific information, community groups and industry organizations that want to visit our first-of-its-kind demonstration facility.Our youth outreach events are designed to inform, engage and reinforce the concepts being taught to students of all ages. We do collaborative work with San Diego Coastkeeper’s Project Swell, interactive demonstrations at the SDG&E Innovation Center with The Energy Coalition, BIOCOM’s STEM in Your Backyard school rotations as well as City of San Diego classroom and outreach event initiatives. Due to COVID-19 related restrictions, we have been given the opportunity to expand the way we communicate with our various publics. We have created a virtual tour involving a City staff walkthrough of the demonstration facility. Our digital speakers’ bureau presentations have allowed us to present to groups and college classrooms at a time where physical presence is not an option. The K-5 and 6-12 lesson plan toolkits can be incorporated into a myriad of curricula across the age and topic spectrum. Being flexible and innovative has allowed us to continue reaching those that we wish to engage.Being a program that is the first of its kind, there is always something to learn, and of course, teach. As an Account Coordinator, I work with a myriad of infrastructure related projects, including:Mid-Coast Trolley Project Blue-Line ExtensionThe Mid-Coast trolley project’s extended blue-line will be the next step in making public transportation more accessible for residents of San Diego. The extended blue-line will connect the current trolley coverage into the north county area of San Diego including stops along Morena Blvd, the UCSD campus and terminating in University City. Once finished, the nine additional stops will greatly enhance the travel needs of the city. I have been active in the community outreach necessary to make the affected public aware of the impacts created by the ongoing construction. Both businesses and residents are affected by the construction and the outreach efforts aim to alert them of road and lane closures, utility outages and detours. By making the public aware of upcoming construction related issues, I hope to minimize the negative impacts of a very positive project.Pure Water San DiegoAs an area that relies heavily on the water being provided by outside agencies, San Diego has been working to diversify its water sources. San Diego Pure Water is a cutting edge water purification process that will be using recycled wastewater to replenish the source of our potable water at the Miramar Reservoir. By adding highly purified water to the surface water, Pure Water San Diego will be capable of providing one-third of the potable water supply in San Diego by 2035.My interest in water as a commodity has kept me actively engaged with the Pure Water program. I currently support the tours being given at the Pure Water Demonstration Facility, attend Pure Water information booths at public events and conduct outreach for the program. As an in-house consultant for the City of San Diego’s Public Utilities Department, I have a chance to work directly with project management and assist in the planning for the upcoming construction phase.

Completed a four-year service obligation in the US Navy stationed on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN70) after completing the Navy’s electrician certification schools in great lakes. Headed up collateral work teams on-board the ship in day to day and long term projects to accomplish tasks on time and under budget. Multiple deployments into the Persian Gulf including campaigns with Operation Enduring Freedom.
