Within this role at Diamond I was tasked with reviewing and revising technical drawings and documents pertaining to mechanical systems and aircraft powerplant under the supervision of multiple Professional Engineers. This position required daily communication and coordination with individuals and teams in every stage of aircraft development and manufacturing, as well as with international company branches. I was working in a hybrid work environment with remote coworkers throughout my time at DAIC. As part of my Co-op I was tasked with the research and development of a revision to aircraft cooling system components to solve common nuisance problems experienced on the fleet. This involved working alongside Production staff and AME personnel to accurately model within CATIA clearances between engine components and the outer cowling. Revised cooling system components were modeled and 3D printed to test fitment onto existing aircraft. A prototype part was then constructed for use in ground runs and flight testing.Additionally, I acted as a reviewer for numerous aircraft modification approval and compliance documents which are reviewed/approved by Ministers Delegates and Transport Canada Civil Aviation Engineers. This position exposed me to the application of composite structures within aviation, the regulatory processes involved with aircraft production, and the use of standardized documentation.

My position at Canada Tubeform had me working on a number of projects. The inventory system for spare/consumable parts was updated with new processes introduced to maintain the new level of organization and improve inventory accuracy. This task called for extensive use of the companies ERP system and the use of excel and hand written tracking to accurately document hundreds of components.A key project called for the redesign of the scrap handling system for a hydroforming cell. This was completed 2D and 3D CAD to redesign the cell layout and design components for production and use in the cell. Technical drawings and sketches were produced using information gathered through communications with the production team and maintenance staff to improve the cell in ergonomics , efficiency, and maintenance access. Changes were documented and reported to upper management. A system was developed within Excel to effectively display and manage work orders for maintenance staff with a goal at improving maintenance staff awareness of cell availability and required tasks, and improving the communication between engineering and maintenance. This system improved maintenance effectiveness and efficiency.

Within this role I demonstrated an intermediate knowledge of CAD by producing large assembly models of production systems, and by redesigning components which were later produced within SolidWorks. I also achieved my CSWA Mechanical Design Certification during my placement.I collaborated with senior designers and engineers through a number of projects and produced sketches, models, and completed research on potential systems. I communicated with suppliers through emails, calls, and video conference to get quotes on components or systems which would be integrated into these manufacturing projects.I worked with many clients as part of a research program completing studies on the technology utilized by their facilities, and formally proposed potential upgrades to modernize systems, improve throughput, and reduce Lean waste in junction with a Senior Designer.
