I work under a Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services grant as a Recovery Navigator, working full-time out of the Cookeville Regional Medical Center Emergency Department and responding to referrals and consult requests from surrounding hospitals to meet with patients, provide peer support, and best equip them and their families with the resources and treatment options to help them enter their recovery journey or reduce harm .I am also currently a full-time student at Tennessee Technological University studying for a bachelors in biology-Health science and Sociology-Social Work in a Pre-Medicine trajectory with the goal of attending medical school and becoming a sub-specialist in addiction medicine after my training is completed. I am passionate about mental health and substance use treatment and am in recovery myself. I have had several areas of employment in different fields before arriving to my current goal and am grateful to work and help in areas where I can until I am at the point of application to medical school. I have lived and worked in the Upper-Cumberland region of Tennessee and have been a part of many service-organizations and groups that work to give back at a community level. I am an Eagle Scout, and believe that every positions has the potential to be improved and help more recipients of services if approached from new and different perspectives.
