About Dylan Kato, Phd
I am inspired by the most challenging problems we face in the area of battery system modeling, estimation and control. I am currently working on battery estimation algorithms as a Co-Op at Form energy. Outside of that, I am a NSF fellow and Ph.D candidate researching in the Energy Controls and Applications Lab (Ecal) under Professor Scott Moura. My research focuses on battery modeling, estimation and control. I have worked extensively with both electrochemical and equivalent circuit models of battery cells. Additionally, a good chunk of my thesis has worked on understanding temperature distributions in battery pack using a stylized 1D PDE model. Some areas I am interested in are: -parameter identification in battery models-optimal experiment design-sensitivity analysis-battery pack thermal management system modeling and design-state of charge (SOC) estimation in LFP cells-novel battery chemistry modeling and parameter estimation (Lithium-Sulfur)-data-driven solutions to battery problems-exciting new challenges in the area of battery controlsAs part of my research, I have developed extensive experimental experience characterizing batteries using both Arbin and PEC systems.
