Working within the mental health setting my role encompasses both clinical and food service roles. In this position, I worked closely with Psychologists, Psychiatrists, the medical and nursing teams to assist consumers in their recovery. I was deputy chair of the hospital nutrition committee working with the CEO, DON, NUM’s and food services manager to establish hospital wide policy. This role was not established at the time of my employment and I was able to implement the following:• Hospital wide metabolic screening – Including policy formulation, staff education (including the development of multimedia educational resources), development of procedures for implementation, hospital wide advocacy for the importance of physical health. • Hospital wide group education – I developed a range of group presentations to suit differing consumer needs. • Implementation of the State Hospital Nutritional Standards for Mental Health. Analysis of recipes and recipe standardisation. Whole menu analysis against aforementioned standards. • Individual dietetic consultation and individualised care plan development.
