Dylan is a toxicologist and pharmacologist with particular expertise in phytocannabinoid and natural product pharmacology, cannabis therapeutics, the pharmacology and toxicology of drugs of abuse and workplace drug testing. He has considerable experience in policy review and development, as well as interpretation of drug testing results, implementation of best practice in drug testing and the provision of expert advice relating to toxicology queries. Dylan maintains membership of the Australian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Toxicology (ASCEPT), Forensic and Clinical Toxicology Association (FACTA), the Australasian College of Toxicology and Risk Assessment (ACTRA) and the Society of Hair Testing (SoHT).Dylan maintains expertise in workplace drug and alcohol testing and has considerable experience with the Australian Standards governing workplace drug testing, AS/NZS 4760 and AS/NZS 4308. Dylan is also well-versed in the requirements of maintaining NATA accreditation and quality accreditation, with a deep undertaking of both ISO9001 and ISO17025. My candidature, under Dr Scott Smid and Dr Ian Musgrave, was focused on exploring the therapeutic potential of phytocannabinoids, along with various other natural products, as lead candidates in the development of treatments for diseases ranging from Alzheimer's Disease to chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal mucositis. This work has led to the publication of several first-author publications, with more in development, as well as a number of conference presentations, including an oral presentation at the World Congress of Pharmacology 2018 in Kyoto, Japan, for which I was awarded a congress bursary. I was also fortunate enough to mentor Honours, Masters and other PhD students during my candidature, which involved teaching laboratory techniques and general scientific principles, as well as assisting in manuscript development and review.Skills include:- Cell culture, including PC12, NSC-34, SHSY5Y, Caco-2, UROtsa, RT4 and neural stem cells- Fluorescence microscopy and cell imaging - Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM)- Transepithelial Electrical Resistance (TEER) measurement and development of cell monolayers- Molecular modelling - Enzyme activity assays, particularly acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase - Measurement of oxidative stress markers, including use of the DCFDA assay- Western blotting- Measurement of cell viability via in vitro assays (e.g. MTT and LDH assays)- Morphometric analysis based on cell imaging- Measurement of protein fibrillation and aggregation via fluorescence assay (e.g. Thioflavin T)- Organ baths- Some animal handling (primarily mice)
