Game Design and Me:I had no background in code, besides a year of failed coding in high school, or digital art prior to starting my game design course but this did not scare me. I was ready to put all I could into this as game design was like a dream job that could fill this missing part in my life. I finally felt something that I had never felt before which was happiness and excitement for work. I used to be a sub-par student in high school and never really cared to be more until game design. I now excelled in my work and could not stop myself from exploring and learning more than the course required. I spent my holidays expanding my knowledge, working on my own solo projects, and learning more and more. Game design had become my life and my passion that I was looking for where all other types of work had failed to capture what I craved to do which is pure creation. I find a sense of achievement in designing something from scratch to a final product that the younger me would love to play and genuinely enjoy.Project Pixel gave me a taste of developing and game design on a more professional and business-like level. We were determined to create games and get a name for ourselves using the skills we had learned from University and in our spare time. I was the main artist for our little group which really helped me find the role in game design where I could expand my expertise and work. We launched our first app Neon Runner, which was featured in a few news articles along with some interviews. It was exciting to feel like your work was being noticed and although it was not the most popular or number one game on the store, we were still proud of our work. I developed the majority of all the visuals within the games we created and found myself loving Environment design and planning of game scenes/levels. I really appreciate and enjoy being around people who have a passion to work hard and achieve something great with liked minds and that is what project pixel was. It taught me how to handle group planning, business management, time management, learning to take the lows and the highs and much more which game design courses do not teach you about in-depth. We worked on many other projects like a VR simulation for Vega school which unfortunately did not continue as we wanted, a sheep escape game, many game jams.I work really hard to achieve a good standard of work within game design and I have fun while doing so. I want to make my dream life a reality which is doing something I love every day and knowing that I have the abilities to do so.
