Leadership role activated during significant emergencies with responsibility for leading the public information function at national level, creating and maintaining public and internal messaging and resources across government agencies and the health sector, while managing a team and ensuring timely delivery in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.The NHCC provides central leadership across the health system, other Government agencies and, if needed, wider society. The NHCC is the touchstone for coordinating the health and disability sector response and the all-of government response to a significant emergency.Areas of focus:- Critical part of COVID-19 response and decision-making from late January 2020, guiding Government agencies on their roles and communications approach.- Strategic advisor on national response leadership team with all-of-Government responsibilities.- Developed and maintained strategic communication plans for emergency responses, managing cross-channel communication including media briefings, public health messaging, and digital outreach.- Annual live training exercises to upskill the New Zealand Medical Assistance Team ahead of any potential international deployments.As Public Information Manager I am qualified in emergency response scenarios, and was responsible for enhancing and maintaining understanding of situations. This role requires strategic leadership as well as strengths in building relationships quickly and remotely with a diverse range of people and excellence in community engagement. As is the nature of emergency response teams, this role often involves branching out into other disciplines and I gained logistical planning and project management experience. Sole responsibility for significant areas at a national level including mental health and addiction, maternity, public health.Areas of focus:- Implemented change and transformation communication strategies including at whole-society level.- Reshaped internal communications approach to support 1500 FTE organisation and 20 regional health boards. - Responsible for the societal Mental Health and Addictions program. - Held the maternity services portfolio to reestablish external relationships with significant stakeholders. - Led project to educate public on legislative changes through all communication and stakeholder channels on the following issues: euthanasia, access to abortion services, blood and organ donation, access to medicinal cannabis, recreational cannabis.- Strategic communications support on prominent issues including: Disability Services and funding, Gender-affirming healthcare, infectious disease outbreaks, PFAS contamination, Māori Health.I was also often called on to assist with project leadership and development, and as a result was identified as a promising emerging leader and provided extensive training.
