Looking at the mental health field and the power sports field you would not think they would be similar. However, after eight years in the power sports industry across different positions in a Harley-Davidson dealership working at a distribution company such as Tucker Rocky, and spending the last four years working at an acute behavioral health hospital as I finished my bachelor’s degree, I have recognized core skills needed to provide excellent patient/customer care that I believe are necessary across all career fields. Those being: communication, honesty, selflessness, improving your work environment with a contagious positive attitude, the ability to withstand extremely stressful situations while making sound decisions, teamwork, remaining open-minded, a general sense of curiosity and desire to learn from both successes and failures, humility, and gratitude.It's these skills that have allowed me to enter unfamiliar fields, be mentored by experienced individuals, and humbly enter leadership positions. I believe through word of mouth and how my peers speak of me, I continue to become an excellent leader and more importantly – a decent human being.
