About Dylan Cho
I am a Chemical Engineering graduate student at Manhattan College pursuing my Masters degree. I have four years of research experience in analytical and green chemistry and am very active within my community and college. I am dedicated to business oriented and environmentally conscious engineering in all industries and I strive for excellence with everything I pursue. In addition to my undergraduate chemical engineering degree, I have also completed minors in Physics, Business, Mathematics, and Chemistry, with a concentration in Materials Science and Processing.I founded the Manhattan College Chess Team and have remained its co-president since sophomore year, 2021. I also hold leadership positions in our school's American Chemical Society (ACS) and Society of Physics Students (SPS), as well as President of the Chem E Car project.

Analytical Chemistry Research Student
I work under Dr. Alexandre Pinto as an Analytical Research Student at Manhattan College. I worked on three different projects total and assisted on several others. During my time as a research student, I managed to acquire two publications for different projects and presented my research at the national ACS conference in 2022.My first major research project looked at the green chemical approach to the synthesis of high-toxicity transition metal chalcogenides (TMCs). The purpose of this was to theorize a better synthesis approach TMCs and quantum dots (QDs), which historically involve environmentally unsustainable and hazardous chemicals. This research looks specifically at biological synthesis of cadmium selenide QDs and controlling factors for the morphology and size control of QDs for commercial application. Dr. Pinto and I (along several other professors) received a publication for our chapter in the work 'Green Chemistry - New Perspectives.'In 2021, Dr. Pinto and I received an ACS-Petrochemical Grant to study the synthesis of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and its ability to photocatalize the degradation of hydrocarbon impurities like atrazine and sulfur. This project involved finding a new, more cost effective method of synthesizing TiO2 and characterizing its crystal structure and surface morphology. The synthesis product was characterized by XRD and IR spectroscopy. Successful rutile-phase material was then tested under UV-light for its ability to degrade atrazine from a hydrocarbon solution. This research was presented twice at the 2021 Online ACS conference and the 2022 National ACS conference in Chicago (posters for both presentations are available). In 2022 we were also working separately on the synthesis and application of graphene-oxide films for enhanced dye rejection filtration. This was a collaboration by multiple different professors and culminated to an article that was published in 2023.
Co-Founder And President Of The Manhattan College Chess Club
The Manhattan College Chess Club includes over 200 students and has held and participated in campus-wide and state tournaments. This club was formed by my physics/engineering friends and I after seeing a demand for both a beginner and advanced chess club. Meetings are held twice a week and chess lessons are offered to beginners. We have also formed a competitive team to represent Manhattan College at major state and national tournaments.
