CurrentOne Kind Block is the world's first modular and LEGO-like hydroponic system, designed to grow cities greener and kinder. It started off as the "child project" of another Kickstarter campaign I co-founded in 2016 with my father, which evolved into the idea of a system that could grow anything anywhere. After iterating and prototyping from 2016 to 2020, we launched One Kind Block via Kickstarter during the pandemic. We were a bit overly-ambitious for the first launch, and we didn't hit our funding goal. We took it as a learning point, and launched on Kickstarter again in early 2021.We were funded $41 356 of our $39 000 goal, thanks to our 438 backers in Feb 2021. We started sales on our website in October 2021, and have been growing ever since.A big part of One Kind Block is to be kind, and champion kindness as an ecosystem. As such, we've collaborated with various schools and organizations on their own sustainability journeys. We worked with various eldercare centers and nursing homes to incorporate the benefits of horticultural therapy in their communities. It's been shown to reduce the effects of dementia and depression and improve overall mindfulness. We were very fortunate to be able to give back in the way we have, thanks to the wonderful folks at Peacehaven nursing home and Timbre+ Eastside.
