About Dylan Tweed
Hey, gang! I'm a native of San Diego, California and fortunate enough to have been exposed to a myriad of different cultures, languages, and peoples. Considerable time spent in both Guatemala and Armenia has opened my eyes to the diversity of people on this planet, and shaped my personal and professional aspirations accordingly. As a student at UVU, it has been a great opportunity to work closely with so many faculty and student scholars in the History and Political Science Department who share the same passion for people that I have. My studies center around Intercultural Peacebuilding, especially in regards to the 'everyday peacebuilder', in schools and in the workplace. My specialties include interfaith relationships, American Civil Rights history, conflict resolution and facilitative mediation, and conflict in the Southern Caucasus. My hobbies include bread-making, film-making, and climbing things. My absolute favorite past-time is spending time and watching movies with my radiant wife, Kirra, who is currently studying law at the J. Reuben Clark Law School (BYU). I hope to continue my post-graduate studies focusing on cultivating peace within ourselves, and within our global, national, and local communities, with plans of both teaching and practicing peacebuilding at a university level.

Expeditions Program Coordinator
CurrentI have the incredible opportunity to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to accelerating impact, fostering meaningful intercultural exchanges around the world, creating sustainable change, and empowering communities in need.
Refugee Outreach Coordinator
I was able to connect with Utah Valley Refugees, a local organization, founded and operated by a team of former refugees, who specialize in long-term assistance for displaced persons, with the ultimate goal of helping them on their path to self-reliance. In September, I began volunteering sporadically, on a case-by-case basis, familiarizing myself with the structure and functions of UVR. In January, I began an official internship with UVR, as the Refugee Outreach Coordinator. My functions include direct outreach to our refugee client-base, awareness campaigns to increase UVR visibility to potential clients, and organizational partner outreach to broaden our scope of services and expand our current client-base. I am also currently managing a team of several dozen local volunteers, who assist in translation, transportation, and community outreach.I’ve been able to apply previously learned principles of participatory development, by developing client-run service and community activity programs, which coincide with our clients’ needs and desires, rather than what we think they need or desire.
Project Intern - Peace And Justice
Assisting in the logistics and facilitation of events and programs in the Peace and Justice Studies program. Especially the “Healing Conversations” multi-day workshop and symposium. Along with one of my most trusted colleagues and friends, Natalie Williams, I’ve assisted in the planning, outreach, and facilitation of both the 2022 and 2023 ‘Healing Conversations’ Workshops. These include workshops and symposia on peacebuilding methods to bridge political and social divides. We’ve worked closely with Dr. Lynn England, as well as the PJST Executive Committee, Center for the Study of Ethics, and Center for Constitutional Studies to coordinate the logistics and distribute invitations and applications to these events. Last year, I also had the chance to participate in these workshops, working with Sara Cook, one of the facilitators, who provided us concrete skills to facilitate ‘Healing Conversations’ among our respective communities using narrative healing techniques. Beyond the conferences themselves, I’ve also assisted Dr. England and the PJST Executive Committee in facilitating a survey to potential NGO employers for students within the program. Though still underway, we’ve already collected valuable data in order to improve and expand the current PJST programs, and provide students with a more robust professional experience via potential certificates and internships.
Instructional Assistant
Currently working with students and faculty in the Political Science/History Department in fostering success through UVU's model of student engaged learning.I’ve had the chance to work closely with faculty in the Political Science Department as an Instructional Assistant for a total of 5 different sections of American Heritage and American National Government. While most of my responsibilities have consisted of subjective grading, I’ve also had the chance to tutor students one-on-one, in small groups, and occasionally to lecture entire sections of 300 students on topics ranging from Genocide Prevention to Civil Rights History in the United States. This has allowed me to apply and hone principles I’ve learned in my studies, as well as develop a passion for teaching in a university setting, something I hope to continue doing into the far future.
Office Assistant
While at Vantage, I learned the invaluable skills of working as a team, taking initiative, and keeping an organized virtual workspace. I felt as though my input was valued, and I was able to play a valuable role in a large, fast-moving, modern marketing company.
Long-Term Volunteer
Served as a liaison between visiting, short-term volunteers, and local Guatemalans.Throughout this experience, my eyes were opened to the values and principles of humanitarian work, sustainable and participatory development; where progress, projects, and goals are set and executed by locals to the community being served. Simultaneously, I gained extensive experience in Spanish translation and interpretation, while forming long-term connections with a broad spectrum of people from diverse national, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
