In this position I was part of the leadership team for a day camp. My role included opening the facility in the morning, greeting parents and campers as they arrived, assisting counselors with camper behavior, enforcing organization policies, and discussing employee or camper issues with the leadership team.In this position, I learned allot about my leadership style, and was able to develop it further through trial and error. I quickly adapted my prior experiences leading children and working with students to a new mindset of leading young adults.

Since 2018, I have spent my summers in the mountains of North Carolina at Green River Preserve. I began as a counselor for a season before taking over the camp's canoeing program and using my experiences to the trades to help with maintenance projects. Teaching a skill, such as canoeing, requires patience. Teaching a skill to children requires even more patience. During my lessons I would change the way I was teaching or explaining a new technique until every kid in my class could do what I was asking. In addition to teaching I also had to be an alert as a lifeguard to ensure the safety of everyone in the water. This position taught me how to be a more effective teacher and delegate my attention in the workplace. Additionally, I was responsible for making lesson plans for all of my classes which has transferred well to keeping organized in a university setting.

While attending Central Carolina Community College, my grades and writing skills helped my gain employment as a writing coach. In this role I helped other students with many aspects related to writing papers including strategies for getting started, proof reading, and organization. In turn, I was able to expand my writing and editing knowledge, and teaching and communication skills.In order to help a fellow student with their writing troubles, I first had to be able to communicate well to learn what they needed help with. Next I had to rely on my knowledge of the writing process, or reference a style guide, and then effectively coach the student through a few revisions to ensure they learned what to look for.
