Kong is a newly formed tribal kingdom, or Fondom, in Northwest Cameroon. Together with international partners, the Kong development team are creating a village from the ground up, around core design principles of resource equity, restorative land practices, indigenous leadership and community-centered economy. As communications lead, I serve in an advisory role and as liaison between Kong leadership and global partners.Kong is a soil-rich equatorial grassland with major growth opportunities in ethical cocoa and coffee production; community leaders previously organized farmers into a worker cooperative that reclaimed control of their supply chain from multinational corporations that remained after colonization. As a result, local prosperity soared and nearby tribal leaders chose to parcel their own territory in order to establish a new Fondom for the expansion of their co-op. The government of Cameroon officially recognized Kong on November 15, 2023.
