At LibrariesWest I lead a central systems team that is responsible for providing a range of ITSM, technical support and development services to partner organisations.LibrariesWest is a leading library consortia in the UK, and is a partnership between seven public library services in the South West of England. It is recognised as an example of best practice where authorities work together to achieve significant economies of scale and deliver better services for customers.The applications and IT services supported by my team are used by staff across 160+ customer sites to manage more than 3 million items of stock, maintain data on 800,000 active customers, and register over 12 million transactions per year.The core services that my team and I provide to the consortium partners include:- Technical support for a range of applications and services. These include shared Library Management System databases, public web site with online catalogue and end-user account functionality, a range of web services and APIs, self-service technologies, public access computers, social media channels, e-book services, mobile app and more.- IT service desk, designed around ITIL best practice, offering incident management, change control and broader advisory services.- Management reporting, data migration and analysis.- Project management and software development expertise.- Supplier and contract management.

During this temporary contract I was responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategy in ICT across the London Museums Hub and through the wider sector in London. The Hub was made up of four museums: London Transport Museum; the Museum of London; the Geffrye Museum and the Horniman Museum.I was responsible for budgets totalling more than £630,000, and allocating funding to museums for a variety of projects. I was also responsible for providing advice to museums across London, and leading on a range of projects and programmes which included skills development initiatives, research, and infrastructure improvement.

The Scottish Museums Council (now Museums Galleries Scotland - www.museumsgalleriesscotland.org.uk) is the strategic development agency and membership body for museums in Scotland, and forms the main channel of government support for the sector.In my role as ICT Development Manager, I was responsible for the strategic development of ICT within the Scottish museum sector, coordinating support to museums, and helping to advise government.The primary focus of my career at SMC was to lead the development, publication and implementation of A National ICT Strategy for Scotland’s Museums. This strategy and its associated three-year action framework was instrumental in raising capacity in the sector, and supporting Scottish museums in continuing to produce world-class online services.

Sun Microsystems was a leading suppliers of Unix hardware and software computing solutions.My main role at Sun was as a Systems Engineer. Specifically, as a Technical Account Manager working with a range of partners developing software in the financial sector. My role required excellent communication and project management skills, and an ability to develop and maintain effective and productive professional networks, backed up with a high degree of technical expertise.While at Sun I also gained professional accreditation in Solaris system and network administration. I was also responsible for managing hardware and software configurations, and resolving clients’ other pre-sales technical requirements.
