Office of the Chief Data Officer (OCDO):As a member of the Open Data division at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), my goal is to ensure that HUD's extensive collection of administrative data is available and accessible to researchers, policymakers, and the general public. In addition to my role in the Open Data division, I am the editor of Data Shop, a department within Cityscape, HUD's peer-reviewed journal. Furthermore, I served on multiple interagency working groups, coordinating with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). Through these various roles, I strive to promote the use of data in informed decision-making and facilitate greater transparency and accountability within the government.

Office of Policy, Programs, and Legislative Initiatives (OPPLI):As the liaison to the Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R), I coordinated policy research related to all Public & Indian Housing (PIH) programs. I also kept up-to-date on pending legislation and proposed regulations that could impact PIH's affordable housing and voucher programs.

Office of Policy, Legislative Initiatives, and Outreach (OPLIO):To help promote fair housing and improve the effectiveness of our policies and programs, I established a Data Analytics team focused on collecting and analyzing data on housing discrimination and other fair housing issues. In addition to using this information to inform policy decisions and program development, I also provided technical assistance to HUD grantees, helping them to better understand and implement fair housing policies in their own communities.

As a primary point of contact for public housing authority (PHA) executives, I monitored the performance of 56 PHAs across Maryland and West Virginia, focusing on the Public Housing Program and the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program. In addition to providing programmatic and technical assistance, I also worked with other program offices to develop initiatives that leveraged community resources – private, nonprofit, academic, and governmental – to address the socioeconomic needs of low-income families.

As a certified Lean Green Belt facilitator, I led the lean transformation for the Prosthetic & Sensory Aids Service aross 3 hospitals and 4 outpatient clinics, with the chief goal of improving the flow of prosthetic items from consult to patient delivery. After analyzing staff workflows, I was successful in developing standard work for a variety of positions throughout the service that improved contract compliance from 63% to 99% in six weeks. The standard work processes I developed were later adopted by other hospital systems throughout the regional network as well as the VA nationwide.In addition to my process improvement responsibilities, I assisted the acting Chief of Prosthetics in all administrative areas including new hire interviews, monitoring staff performance, training, and awards, as well as preparation of the $46M operating budget.

Appointed to the inaugural cohort of the Governor's Empire State Fellows, a senior executive development program for New York State government, I served as Special Assistant to both the Deputy Commissioner of Workforce Development and the Deputy Commissioner of Justice Research and Performance. Additionally, I joined the State performance management team as liaison to nine government agencies in the public safety cluster to develop the NYPerforms performance management system.Department of Labor:Within six weeks of my appointment, I was challenged with aiding the New York State Department of Labor's (NYSDOL) response to Hurricane Sandy. With no playbook and few resources, I managed staffing and logistics for 20 Disaster Assistance Centers in 10 counties, allowing the State's workforce professionals to connect affected New Yorkers with disaster unemployment assistance and job opportunities.Later appointed to the 2013 Regional Economic Development (REDC) State Agency Assessment Team, I reviewed strategic plan updates from the State’s 10 Regional Economic Development Councils (REDCs) for the annual $750M capital funding competition. As an expert in Arabic and Pashto-Afghan linguistics, I provided time-sensitive intelligence reports to the National Command Authority and other intelligence agencies by translating, interpreting, and transcribing foreign language communications data. In this role, I was attached to the National Security Agency / Central Security Service and had a TOP SECRET / SCI clearance. In addition to leading a rotating shift of 6-8 linguists in conducting foreign intelligence operations and supervising the training of incoming personnel, I also flew over forty combat missions in Afghanistan, providing direct support to theater operations. As a member of the command honor guard, I also had the privilege of rendering military funeral honors at over 25 ceremonies.
