Data warehousing consultant, specializing in design, architecture, and implementation of complex data warehouses and reporting systems.I assist clients with any aspect of data warehousing/analytics projects, including obtaining source data, delivering and transforming data into the target data warehouse, creating reports & dashboards, and managing user access. My involvement covers the full range, from occasional guidance or troubleshooting, mentoring, significant but high-level oversight, to full implementation.Though I have focused primarily on the Birst platform, I work with many other products including Azure Functions & SQL Server/DW, Klipfolio, Looker, Python, & more.Some recent projects:- Complete reimplementation of beverage wholesaler's Birst data warehouse including architecture and design specifications for data acquisition and delivery to Birst and the design and implementation of the Birst data model and ETL process. Processes and conforms data from 3 separate order management systems, as well as integrating customer, product, and sales forecast information from ERP, and freight estimates and costs from 3rd party logistics. New system turns around incremental data loads in less than half an hour per night as compared to the old environment's 6+ hour cycles, and serves queries vastly faster than the old system.- Implementation of a new data pipeline and student progress dashboards using Python running in an Azure Function to extract data hourly from learning management and testing systems and deliver it to Azure SQL Server for use in reporting via Klipfolio embedded in an existing portal. Includes Azure Functions to take user login webhook events and mediate user provisioning and single-sign-on to Klipfolio.

Created a new dedicated team to address the need for Services architecture, high-level technical oversight, practice management, and support for the most complex projects and pre-sales opportunities.Responsibilities include, among others:- Services architecture, assisting Services consultants and Pre-Sales personnel with determining appropriate solutions for novel or unusually complex data warehouse requirements, often related to big data, data security, slowly changing dimensions, etc.;- Working with Product Management and Engineering on agile/iterative product design and testing for complex feature requirements related to role-playing, slowly changing & degenerate dimensions, complex report filter conditions, ETL script wizard, and many more;- Implementing the first Birst customer using ParAccel as the back-end database, working closely with Product Management and Engineering on the specs for the PADB integration, particularly with respect to performance management;- Developing and presenting a user conference session on performance tuning options within Birst;- Mentoring personnel from Services, Pre-Sales, Product Management, Training, and Birst partners,customers & prospects, about most aspects of the Birst product;- Collaborating with Services management to develop various aspects of the practice, including: timekeeping and project tracking methods, implementation methods, packaged Services offerings, etc.;

Formed the Enterprise Services team to ensure continued focus on Enterprise implementations during the early introduction of Birst.com; responsible for the success of all Enterprise customer implementation projects and on-going support efforts, managing varying numbersof implementation staff.Responsibilities included, among others:- Implemented the first Birst customer using InfoBright as the back-end database, working closely with Product Management and Engineering on the specs for the IB integration;- Oversaw implementation and on-going maintenance of financial services & executive reporting applications for Birst’s several financial services firms;- Designed and lead implementation of casino partner’s applications, including offer response predictive modeling, and very successful Casino Share Intelligence product, which provides extensive reporting about a casino’s market, wallet, and patron share, among other things;- Closely involved with Product Management and Engineering during development of various new features, including: SFDC connector, many major ETL features, performance optimization options,and many others;- Trained numerous new employees on the internals of the Birst query and ETL engines, as well as data modeling and ETL scripting techniques and other areas of the Birst system;- Assisted employees from multiple organizations with implementation decisions and product questions through-out the Birst system;

Responsible for product customizations, workflow design, requirements definition and project management for a wide variety of customers deploying a leading employee-based financial system, including expense reporting and time capture; system is built in Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JavaFaces and JSP using WebLogic, Java WebStart, and Apache, supporting Oracle, SQL Server, and DB2;- work with customers, ranging from small law firms to large multi-national banks, to analyze and document requirements for configuration and customization of the Extensity product; - manage multiple projects for different customers with additional personnel at various stages, coordinating assistance from other departments as necessary, ensuring customers complete their portions of the project appropriately, and often coordinating certain customer resources;- design and implement a wide range of customizations in Java, JSP, and SQL for customers, always as generically as possible to support reusability;- design and implement workflow configurations for some of our largest and most complicated customers, including two large banking/investment banking firms; - designed and implemented configurable, extensible data extraction framework;- designed and implemented extensible system for expediting or escalating documents; quickly integrated into base code, this is used by the majority of new or upgraded installs; - designed and implemented many other features later added to base code, including an open password validation interface to allow for customer-implemented password validations; automated document approval process designed to allow for custom validation criteria without changes to the overall framework;- primary PSO expert on workflow design and implementation, customization, and user authentication;- interact with Engineering and Release Engineering as a representative of PSO to help in design process for product features, architecture, and build system.

Manage consulting projects for a variety of clients, as well as company operations, including accounting, licensing, etc. Responsibilities and projects include, among others:- Lead Developer for Enterprise Email Service (Exchange deployment) project (2/98-10/98): wrote application scope, functional specifications, and detailed designs for the E-mail Directory Manager (COM-based NT Service synchronizes client’s master directory with Exchange via ADO and ADSI and provides downstream feeds to other systems), and the Calendar Clearinghouse (ADO- & CDO-based single Web access point for Exchange calendars and redirection to other calendar systems) to support the client’s company-wide Exchange Server rollout; implemented EDM, oversaw the implementation of Calendar Clearinghouse. Returned to project (1/99-1/00) to provide on-going en-hancement of Email Directory Manager and design second version of EDM to provide full automated email directory management for the client’s entire 180,000+ user international network.- Development Consultant (10/98-12/98): consulted with client on development standards and methods; reviewed VB5 application architecture of real-time debt collection management system.- Designed and implemented the Emergency Room Scheduler, a Visual Basic application for creating and maintaining doctors’ regular, on-call, and vacation schedules for a local emergency department.- Designed and implemented an application using Outlook forms and VBScript with extensive Exchange interaction to allow users, managers, and administrators to update X.500 directory entries.- Also have created VB application prototypes for various clients, reviewed tech tip submissions for ZDnet, and assisted in planning migrations and implementations, including implementation of Exchange and TCP/IP on a corporate network, conversion of Windows 3.1/MSMAIL/VB3 applications to Exchange and VB4 on Windows 95, and initial design of a small computer company’s web-site.

Responsible for program design and development; project, product, and standards management; and second- and third-tier user support.- Managed product life-cycle for Visual Basic, SourceSafe, and SQL Server as Product Manager, coordinating developer support and training, including presentations by notable VB authorities, developing corporate VB and SQL standards, evaluating and selecting a standard package of third-party tools, and acting as primary PG&E liaison with Microsoft and third-party vendors.- Developed or managed development of several VB RAD projects, for a variety of internal clients, including the Publications Update Notifier, an Exchange and Access tool to let tech writers notify subscribers of new publications, various tools supporting mail and calendar migration from Banyan VINES to NT and Exchange.- Designed client/server paging system, including custom ActiveX components, to provide robust, reliable enterprise-wide alpha-numeric paging; wrote extensive technical design specifications for the new system; also managed two VB developers doing short-term enhancements to the existing paging system, resulting in a nine-fold performance increase.- Designed and developed PG&E Company-standard remote control dial-in system and supporting software around ReachOut which provides system security, user customization, usage logging, and extensive host maintenance automation.- Designed and led implementation of a Visual Basic 3 client/server front-end application that allows users to manage investigation of cases of improper energy loss, integrating MS Access database with Oracle 7 via TCP/IP over a LAN or PPP (wired or cellular) connection, allowing users to check out cases, make updates while offline, and send changes to the server in or out of the office.- Assisted with the design, development, and maintenance of the Company-wide PC desktop configuration standard, as a member of the Personal Computer Configuration System (PCCS) Committee.
