Teamsters Local 743 represents around 10,000 employees between the Chicago region and Northern Indiana. As a clerk, I aided the General Counsel of Local 743 by researching various topics in labor law, including employees' rights under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), and the legal status of employees' use of social media.Additionally, I reviewed union-emplyoyer collective bargaining agreements and aided the General Counsel in preparation for grievance arbitrations between its members and employers.

My work in the Chicago-Kent mediation clinic consisted of both doctrinal and experiential learning. The doctrinal element of the course involved reading assignments and instruction from Mediator Pam Kentra in the theories, methods, and uses of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). The course familiarized me with the different types of ADR, including different types of mediation, arbitration, and negotiation. In addition, I volunteered as a court-appointed mediator at Cook County courthouses after I was certified as a mediator through the Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR) in Chicago. I mediated cases with both pro se and represented litigants in small claims cases and in landlord/ tenant disputes.

During the summer of 2015 after my first year of law school, I worked as a criminal records intern at Cabrini Green Legal Aid (CGLA). It was my task to serve clients with criminal records in Chicago.Individuals with criminal records face many obstacles in finding employment. This is true both of individuals who were never convicted of a crime, and those who have served their sentences if convicted. The State of Illinois, however, offers various forms of relief for a criminal records, most notably sealing and expungement.As a criminal records intern, I interviewed CGLA clients and assembled the appropriate court documents on behalf of clients seeking relief. If expungement or sealing was not available, I assembled the documents seeking other forms of relief available in Illinois. In addition, I wrote a petition for executive clemency (also known as a pardon) from Governor Bruce Rauner on behalf of a CGLA client.
