I stumbled into the world of engineering rather haphazardly. Having always had a broad interest in all walks of life made for a difficult decision during my freshmen year at CU Boulder. My interest in science led me to eventually choose geology as a degree, but my post college life took a different path. While trying to secure my first full time job, I came across an opening for an engineering technician at Pioneer Energy. Even though I had just graduated with a geology degree, the idea of entering a new field piqued my curiosity, and I applied for the job.I spent my first year as a technician learning everything from welding and metal fabrication, to process design and controls wiring. This new wealth of knowledge inspired me to go to the Colorado School of Mines and earn my degree in chemical engineering while continuing to work at Pioneer Energy. I then continued as a process engineer at STA Technologies where I expanded my knowledge base in chemical manufacturing, before rejoining Pioneer Energy as a Controls and Automation Engineer. I then decided to follow my passion for renewable energy by making a transition to the solar industry.I am now the Principal Engineer for Ponderosa Engineers, and provide contract services for SCADA, electrical design, process design and safety for the energy and renewables sectors.I have switched my life path a few times; from the world of science and academia, to hands-on skilled labor, to chemical engineering. As a result, I possess a broad dexterity in many fields that the average chemical engineer would not venture into. Along with my multi-faceted background, comes the ability to always look at challenges and new ideas from multiple perspectives while always keeping the big picture in mind.
