As a researcher at Dublin City University, I am passionate about applying my skills and knowledge in analytical chemistry to address environmental challenges and improve water quality. I have been working on this topic for over four years, since I started my PhD in 2019, funded by the Irish Research Council.My research focuses on the detection, identification, and quantification of pharmaceuticals in Irish surface waters, using advanced techniques such as liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. I have developed and validated novel methods for this purpose, and have published several papers in peer-reviewed journals. I also collaborate with other researchers and stakeholders from different disciplines and sectors, such as ecology, toxicology, engineering, and policy, to assess the impacts and implications of pharmaceutical pollution. My goal is to contribute to the scientific understanding and the societal awareness of this emerging issue, and to support the development of effective solutions and strategies.
