As a publisher at IOP Publishing, I manage a portfolio of three scientific journals: Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, Electronic Structure, and Superconductor Science and Technology. My role involves market analysis, strategic planning, and managing projects to drive journal growth and impact.I excel in identifying key areas for growth, developing strategies to expand our audience, and building strong relationships with authors and editorial boards. I focus on enhancing journal visibility, staying ahead of industry trends, and fostering a sense of community within the scientific world.My passion lies in optimizing processes, driving results, and creating content that resonates with the target audience. I'm committed to ensuring that the journals I manage are high-quality, relevant, and accessible.

I served as the main point of contact between departmental faculty and postgraduate students. My responsibilities included:• Assisting the CTO with lab demonstrator timetables to ensure a fair distribution of hours among postgraduate students.• Addressing any postgraduate concerns at a faculty level and providing support as needed.• Facilitating communication between faculty and postgraduate students to ensure a smooth and effective learning environment.• Collaborating with faculty members to develop and implement policies and procedures that promote academic excellence and student success.• Providing guidance and mentorship to postgraduate students to help them navigate their academic programs and achieve their goals.• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with faculty members, postgraduate students, and other stakeholders to promote collaboration and build a sense of community within the department.Through my work as the point of contact between departmental faculty and postgraduate students, I developed strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. During my PhD, I focused on synthesizing silicon and germanium nanowires for energy storage and single nanowire devices, developing expertise in synthetic and materials chemistry via liquid precursor chemical vapour deposition (CVD). I also gained experience in batteries, transistors, and a range of materials science characterization techniques.As part of my role, I mentored undergraduate and master's students, providing guidance and support throughout their projects. I ensured timely completion of their work and facilitated experience-based learning opportunities to help them develop their skills and knowledge.Through my research and mentoring activities, I developed strong expertise in synthetic and materials chemistry, as well as a deep understanding of nanowire devices, batteries, and transistors. I also honed my communication, problem-solving, and project management skills, allowing me to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

During my PhD I was an active and involved member of the Young Engineers and Scientists (YES) Bernal committee. YESBernal's aim is to organize technical and social events for young researchers at the Institute. I joined the committee during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I felt the organization could help isolated students. We successfully organized many virtual events both technical and (potentially more importantly) social in nature.

I spent the final year of my PhD working with Prof Jim Cahoon at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill.Here, I developed a range of skills. Particularly in nanofabrication and electrical characterization of single silicon and germanium nanowires. Also gained extensive experience using a home built CVD system.

Limerick

Completed cooperative education placement at Aughinish Alumina. My role here was as a quality analyst. My main duties included conducting quality analysis of alumina, hydrate and bauxite. For my placement I performed routine analysis such as:• XRD and XRF using fused beads and pressed powder pellets• TGA and DSC• BET Surface Area • Bulk Density• Size analysis and Attrition Index by electroformed sieves and Malvern• Moisture Analysis• Ion Chromatography (specifically for sulphate and oxalate)• Colourimetry and Conductivity

Awarded a research bursary by Prof Michael Zaworotko to work with the Crystal Engineering Research Group in UL. My project was titled “Levulinic Acid Cocrystals”. I used my own initiative and carried out a variety of experiments to try and produce cocrystals of levulinic acid using a range of different coformers. Experiments performed included slow evaporation, solvent-assisted grinding and slurries.Analysis was performed using PXRD, SCXRD and TGA. HighScore and Microsoft Excel were used to interpret analytical results. Communication skills were also developed by presenting findings to the research group.

Represented all male club members,Worked with Club Captain, committee and coaches to meet goals and targets while maintaining and encouraging a team atmosphere within the club.
