My sailing career started with a round-the-world voyage on the square rigged tall ship "Concordia", when I was just 18 years old. The experience showed a prairie boy that there was a big world out there, and that people got paid well to see it.When I got home I rushed to get my first marine license (4 years at the Nautical Institute in Newfoundland), then struck out in the offshore construction world on Dynamically Positioned vessels. For 15 years I sailed on dive support, ROV, PSV, heavy lift, and rigid pipe lay vessels all over the world. With a young family at home I eventually hung up my Captain's hat and moved to Houston. The next 6 years were spent learning the Marine Survey trade, with a focus on DP and Mission Critical Equipment, large MWS projects, and expert witness work. Now in the third act of my career, I'm focusing on managing the business side of Marine Assurance and Marine Warranty. Much of my time is spent building systems and coaching personnel and clients alike on what good looks like - both in the field and on the final technical deliveries.I'm a firm believer in managing operations using the latest Human and Organizational Performance principles and am grateful to work with the most safety forward clients in the industry.I'm a regular contributor to industry publications, including Maritime Executive magazine, and an active member of various organizations, including: IMCA (NA Marine Committee), MTS (DP History Chair), SOMWS (Director), and am a proud supporter of OMSA.
