AmeriCorps NCCC-FEMA Corps is a partnership between Americorps NCCC and FEMA where 18-24 year olds participate in ten months of team based national and community service, specifically addressing the needs of communities in regards to disasters. Round One:Partnered with The Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management and local non-profits to develop and coordinate the 1st Annual Los Angeles County Pledge to PrepareIn one month of outreach 137 houses of worship were registered for the initiative. An estimated 13000 people were directly impacted by the Pledge to Prepare project. Worked with Mr. Ken Kondo, the Public Information Officer for the LA County Office of Emergency Management, on the coordination and facilitation of a press conference to kick-off the Pledge to Prepare weekend. Wrote press releases and media advisories, managed Twitter and Facebook pages, invited speakers and guests, assembed press packets, outreached to the media, and coordinated the logistics of the press conference. The press conference was a success with about 100 attendees including local faith leaders, speakers from the federal, state, and local levels, as well as various members of the print, radio, and television media.Round two: Worked within the National Preparedness Division at FEMA’s Region 10 headquarters in Seattle, Washington.Created promotional materials for America’s PrepareAthon!
