Devised funding solutions for meritorious commercial and investment treaty arbitrations.

The New York International Arbitration Center (“NYIAC”) is a nonprofit organization formed to advance, strengthen and promote the conduct of international arbitration in New York. My role included developing and implementing the Center's strategic plan, performing in-house legal work (contracting, e-commerce, compliance) overseeing all operations (including financial and HR), conducting business development, and speaking and writing on arbitration law. In its first four years, NYIAC has earned a national and international reputation for market-leading thought leadership in international arbitration. Alongside my work at NYIAC, I serve as an independent arbitrator in contractual cases, to date under the ICC and UNCITRAL Rules.

In addition to representing a broad range of clients in international commercial and investor-state arbitration cases, I regularly advised my corporate colleagues on dispute resolution clauses of major financing and joint venture agreements. Industry sector experience includes energy, insurance, airline transport, construction, and sovereign wealth funds. While at the firm, I did pro bono work for a well-known arts organization, volunteered as a small claims court arbitrator, and provided French to English translation for refugee applicants.

In 2008, I was seconded to this world-class auction house to provide expertise on regulatory and corporate structure issues. After conducting a risk analysis, I worked with a team of in-house lawyers to develop a compliance program suitable to the business.

Under the leadership of Justice Dennis O'Connor, this Commission of Inquiry was struck to examine the actions of Canadian officials in relation to Maher Arar, a Canadian citizen who was subjected to extraordinary rendition from New York to Syria in 2002. I assisted the Commissioner with review and analysis of the evidence, much of which had been taken in camera. The Report of the Commission resulted in substantial reforms in policing/intelligence practices and in compensation being awarded to Mr. Arar.

Immediately after law school, I served as a clerk to the Hon. Nadon, assisting with cases in French and English concerning administrative, constitutional, shipping, and employment law.
