E.G. Nadeau Email and Phone Number
I have been researching, teaching and writing about cooperatives, community development, and societal trends for more than 45 years, beginning with my work as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal in 1970. During that time, I also developed cooperatives and founded an organization that is dedicated to developing cooperative businesses. My son, Luc, and I founded The Cooperative Society Project as a nonprofit initiative in 2015. The Project has two primary goals: • To analyze the hypothesis that humans may be on the threshold of a new historical stage, one characterized by cooperation, democracy, the equitable distribution of resources, and a sustainable relationship with nature. • To make recommendations for how we can increase the likelihood of moving toward a more cooperative society during the next several decades. The means for carrying out these goals is through a book, website, newsletters, videos, articles, and social media. The book, entitled “The Cooperative Society: The Next Stage of Human History,” was published in September 2016 and will be revised every two years, at least through 2030. We also publish six on-line newsletters per year as well as occasional articles that address a variety of issues related to the cooperative society. Co-DirectorThe Cooperative Society Project Jul 2015 - PresentBased In Madison Wisconsin, A Worldwide FocusThe Cooperative Society Project's two-part mission is: To gather information on whether or not humans are on the threshold of a new historical stage, one characterized by cooperation, democracy, the equitable distribution of resources, and a sustainable relationship with nature; andTo propose strategic actions to increase the likelihood that this transition will occur. The Cooperative Society is organized in three parts: an elaboration of the hypothesis; a "test" of the hypothesis based on measurement of seven broad variables; and a set of observations and recommendations on ways to increase the likelihood that we move toward a more cooperative society during the next several decades.Other work experienceFrom February 2014 to September 2015, I served as the research director for the US Overseas Cooperative Development Council (OCDC), and organized the International Cooperative Research Group, a division of OCDC.In 2012, I wrote “The Cooperative Solution: How the United States can tame recessions, reduce inequality, and protect the environment.” I also co-authored “Cooperation Works!” with David Thompson in 1996.In 1985, I founded Cooperative Development Services, a pioneering co-op business-planning organization in the United States. During a period of 30 years, from 1985 to the present, I have been doing domestic and international consulting work for Cooperative Development Services, the National Cooperative Business Association/CLUSA, Land O’ Lakes International Development Division, the Overseas Cooperative Development Council, and other organizations.
