Formerly known as Socrata, the Data & Insights division of Tyler Technologies offers data organization and dissemination strategies to local and federal governments so that citizens can be more informed and engaged with the institutions that represent and serve them.

Working on a small team of 3 to 5 developers had me interacting intimately with all parts of the development and deployment process. I was primarily a full-stack developer in Groovy, specifically within the Grails framework. In addition to feature development and bug fixes, I wrote tests using Geb and Spock, powered by Selenium, and interacted with a sophisticated AWS architecture managed by a suite of Ansible, Bash, and Python scripts. The size and structure of CODE also imparted significant responsibility, particularly with regard to software durability and security. Efficient system monitoring and issue diagnosis were fundamental tools, second only to maintaining calm and working effectively as a team when it mattered most.

Mindfulness-based empowerment expert Arda Ozdemir designed a mobile application, Journey Within, which was predicated on the notion that self-reflection is the best tool for tranquility and healing. I worked as a freelance developer on this project, which taught me to construct contracts that ensure fair compensation, minimize scope-creep, and foster healthy work relationships. On top of this, I structured an iterative delivery model from the ground up to ensure that we stayed on track with the core mission of the project, and that Arda was happy every step of the way.

Lead a team of student developers contracted by Public Radio International for our Senior Synthesis project at Seattle University. I was in charge of architecting the whole system, which was primarily built in JQuery and pure Javascript, as well as implementing the large parts of it. We successfully built a highly extensible and configurable web platform for writers and editors of PRI to add media content into stories.

DatStat provides infrastructure for medical research institutions and other medical care organizations through a web-based data collection platform. Initially I built regression tests using Selenium Web Driver but I eventually moved on to bug fixes in Illume - DatStat's legacy product - and eventually new feature implementations. Before long I was developing custom solutions for existing and potential customers and being recognized at company meetings for those solutions.
