I manage the day-to-day internal and external communications for the SDSMA, which represents practicing physicians, residents and medical students in South Dakota. The SDSMA is a professional association and a non-profit organization with a mission is to promote the art and science of medicine, protect and improve the health of the public, and advocate for the well-being of patients and the best environment for physicians to advance quality health care. I also produce the SDSMA's monthly peer-reviewed medical journal, South Dakota Medicine.

South Dakota Medicine is a peer-reviewed medical journal which publishes scholarly articles. It is read by physicians, residents, medical students, hospital and clinic administrators and other health care leaders. The journal presents timely information on public health, science, medical economics, medicolegal issues, legislative affairs and association news. South Dakota Medicine is published monthly by the South Dakota State Medical Association.

As a graduate student, I worked with SDSU faculty to help them introduce new tools and applications for engagement in hybrid and online classrooms.

As a journalist at the Argus Leader, the state's largest daily newspaper, and for the weekly Sioux Falls Business Journal, Baltic Beacon, and Dell Rapids Tribune, I wrote local and regional news stories as a general assignment reporter, closely following breaking news and posting it online as it happened. I contributed to USA Today multiple times, including coverage of South Dakota's 2008 presidential primary election.

I was a graduate assistant for an introductory journalism/mass communications course for one semester, providing in-class assistance to students and the professor and holding office hours to meet with students one-on-one.

I ran two state legislative campaigns in Minnesota. I wrote news releases, op-eds, approved direct mail, coordinated ad buys in local media, set up interviews with media organizations in a five-county area and responded to media inquiries. In addition, I handled all candidate scheduling, coordinated fundraising activities and events, recruited and managed volunteers, and conducted district/voter demographic and legislative issues research.

As an intern, I interacted daily with constituents by phone, in writing and in person and monitored news coverage across Minnesota that had relevance to the senator. I also tracked constituent correspondence to be reported to the senator.

Assisted in Get-Out-The-Vote efforts, scheduled volunteers to work shifts and projects, registered new voters, and maintained a database of voter contacts and volunteers.
