About Emily Hagen Larkin, Aia

Emily is a practicing architect who is passionate about designing place-centric environments and objects that foster contextual connections for people through spatial storytelling and material detailing. She founded Studio Hagen, a small architectural (and woodworking!) design practice based in Seattle in 2022 and manages the firm as a sole proprietor. Emily is a licensed architect and has lectured nationally and internationally on innovative building technologies including advancements to the world of mass timber. Her award-winning conceptual design for a timber high-rise building was published in the book “Timber in the City”. Emily received her Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech and attended the University of Oulu’s Modern Nordic Architecture program. Her work has spanned diverse typologies and scales - from large scale rural healthcare projects in Haiti, multifamily projects in Southern California, spa and wellness centers in Washington State, all the way to single family new construction and renovation design work across the country. She believes good design is scale-less and spends her free time carving wooden spoons from sticks she collects on her favorite hikes.
