Mellanskånes Renhållningsaktiebolag (MERAB) is a regional waste management company, which carries out waste management services in the three municipalities Eslöv, Höör and Hörby in south Sweden. I work as part of a team of two Information Officers to achieve waste minimization, increase reuse and recycling, improve quality of food waste, and reduce the amount of combustible waste and waste to landfill by information and activities in the three municipalities. In order to reach out to the 62 000 citizens in our three municipalities we produce a variety of information materials, including brochures, flyers, posters, stickers, newsletters and ads. We hold lectures about sustainable development, waste management and recycling at schools and at places of work and various associations and organizations. We also arrange study visits at the Recycling Centers. In February 2013 MERAB introduced a new system of curb side collection, intended to increase recycling in the region. In the year before, we focused on convincing as many of the households as possible to join the new system. We did this through an extensive campaign, which included the communication of information materials through various media and information meetings in the towns and villages in the region. Since the introduction if the new system, recycling has increased, which also means that the amount of combustible waste has been reduced. As a bonus, we have also noted a considerable improvement in the quality of food waste. This means that we now can make biogas from the food waste we collect using the new system, instead of compost. To-date 76 % of the households invited to join the system have accepted.

I also translated articles, press releases and brochures, participated in client meetings and worked at events and conferences organized by Nordis.
