Managing Director

Current

Brussels Area, Belgium

I am the founder and principal owner of an independent European public affairs consultancy that helps clients understand the EU and its impact on their affairs - whether companies, business associations, NGOs/charities, governments or government bodies. We have offered a wide range of services to associations over the years. I am very much a "hands on" manager in the work we do for clients.Having been active as a public affairs professional in Brussels for over thirty five years, I am now probably one of the longest-serving and experienced Brussels-EU specialists around. Our slogan is "effective, innovative public affairs" and over the decades I have been a leader in introducing new and exciting new ways of being more effective in public affairs. Over the years, my colleagues and I have worked for a wide range of clients and won recognition and awards for our work along the way.

Feb 1997 - Present

Secretary General

Brussels Area, Belgium

Serving Europe is the association of branded food & beverage service chains, and brings together the leading companies that operate franchised food service operations around Europe. Some operate quick service restaurants or fast casual restaurants, while others are focused on delivery services or, increasingly, offer both. In addition, some members are master franchisees or operate concessions on motorway service areas, airports or other transport systems. The branded chains are characterised by the high standards they set in all aspects of their businesses, serving millions of consumers every day. Typically, they offer flexible jobs to those who do not wish to work fulltime or who would otherwise have difficulty getting access to the world of work.My job is to keep the members up-to-date with EU and sometimes national level policy and legislative developments that are relevant for their activities. This involves helping them understand how these may affect their products, operations and commercial relations, so that they may adapt in due time.Part of my job is also to work in cooperation with other stakeholders to make input to the EU institutions about the impact that EU measures may have on the branded food and beverage chains. This involves me participating in some of the official consultation committees that the Commission has established for this purpose.

Secretary General

360° Foodservice unites companies that provide reuse and/or single use solutions for safely serving food and beverages to millions of Europeans every day, regardless of the materials that are used. 360° Foodservice is established under Belgian law. These manufacturers and distributors are joined by suppliers of raw materials, components and technology. 360° Foodservice also welcomes companies in the entire foodservice chain, including foodservice businesses, food delivery companies and end-of-life solution providers.Together, these companies recognize that today’s changing lifestyles are significantly influencing the way we eat and drink. A new balance is emerging between consumption in and out-of-home, where convenience, health and safety and respect for the environment are the top priorities. We aim to contribute to that new world in a responsible, safe and sustainable way.360° Foodservice wants European consumers to know that the items we manufacture, distribute and use are safe in every way, environmentally sound and ethically produced. Collection and recycling must be in place for single use items once they have done their job. Reusable items must be collected and sanitised before being used again, and recycled when they reach the end of their useful life.360° Foodservice was formerly known as Pack2Go Europe. In the past, the focus of the association was entirely on single use packaging. The future will be built on a new balance between sensible single use and responsible reuse, always safe and sustainable. This is why the association fundamentally reoriented its vision and approach in 2020 to be in line with the needs and challenges of the new circular economy and the European Green Deal. The new brand reflects the association’s new vocation, membership and point of view.

Secretary General

Clean Europe Network - European Litter Prevention Association

Brussels Area, Belgium

The Clean Europe Network is aiming for a litter free Europe by 2030. It brings together so-called "clean" organisations - NGOs, charities and not-for-profit groups that are working on tackling the litter challenge, notably by promoting the prevention of littering. The Clean Europe Network is established under Belgian law as the European Litter Prevention Association. The Network's primary goal is to exchange experience and expertise between its members and within the limits of the available resources with anyone else who asks us. My job involves working with members to design and run workshops and other information exchange activities such as conferences ("Stop Litter Now! Summits) and publications. The Network also works on developing common approaches to specific matters where there is added value in a European dimension. The Network has developed the first ever common European methodology for litter measurement and monitoring, which we aim to promote actively as a way to develop vital information about local litter problems to help those responsible for managing local litter prevention. It also has the potential to generate comparative information across Europe over time. Another project dealt with identifying local sources of litter getting into local freshwater to help the responsible authorities to better understand how they can prevent litter getting to the freshwater and from there to the sea.The Network is not a lobbying organisation. That said, it does call openly on policy-makers and legislators for more and better litter prevention policy. It loudly supported the European Commission's December 2015 proposals for a new EU litter policy, which was included as part of the revision of the EU general directive on waste. Meanwhile this has been further strengthened by MEPs and will be adopted as EU law in spring 2018. Part of my job has been to promote that development, including extended producer responsibility for litter prevention campaigning.
