Investigation of the potential for Gasoline Direct Injection in small displacement 4-stroke water-cooled engineResearch is founded by the Wisconsin Small Engine Consortium formed by: • Harley-Davidson, Mercury Marine, Kohler Engines, Briggs and Stratton, and UW-MadisonObjective of research• Investigate outputs of GDI in small engines. • Explore homogenous GDI compression ratio effects• Identify unique characteristic of-cooled GDI operation • Improve fuel efficiency, engine-out emissions and power output with cost-effective technologyActivities include: • Engine lab design (engine exhaust system, lab controls, fuel system)• Engine post processing code for pressure, heat release, emissions, P-V diagrams, etc., using Matlab • Engine testing and calibration (fuel measurements, pressure transducers, GDI operation, emissions bench) • Data analysis and uncertainty calculation, as well as design of experiments for optimum engine operation using SmartUQ (uncertainty calculation software)

Research mentored by Prof. Jaal Ghandhi of the Mechanical Engineering dept. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison my research was in Steady Flow and Swirl Coefficients in 2.0 L Diesel Engine Intake Ports. I was also selected by Faculty nomination for the McNair Scholars Program designed to prepare students for graduate research opportunities.

This project aimed to develop a process and apparatus for detecting the presence of tissue on a glass microscope slide with the intention of using the specific tissue location to dispense the minimum volume of fluid to cover the tissue. This will optimize the amount and distribution of the reagent. Research and development activities include requirements development, development of tissuedetection technology, algorithm and code development, motion control, fluid dispense and fluid control technologies, and testing and verification
