About Earlisia Beneby
I am an alumna of Florida State University, where I majored in criminology and minored in sociology, graduating with honors. During my matriculation, I served underprivileged communities through volunteerism and mentorship through the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend, Leon County Public Schools, and Duval County Public Schools. At the Office of Accessibility Services at Florida State University, I advocated for students with varying disabilities. I ensured that there was accessibility and inclusivity on campus and in classrooms. I joined Teach for America as a corps member in 2022 at the peak of the teacher shortage to fight for educational equity, attaining a certification in exceptional student education for grades K–12. During my tenure of teaching in Duval County Public Schools, I was a seventh-grade lead English teacher, where I centered my practice on educational liberation. I examined curriculum with a pedagogical framework and applied a universal design for learning. With dedication and determination, I achieved ranking as a highly effective teacher in both years of my teaching tenure. In 2024, I established Boys Beyond misBehavior to mitigate behavioral challenges that impact male students academically and socially. Currently, I am part of the Children's Literacy Initiative's workforce of professionals who are geared towards dismantling systemic structures to bring about educational equity. As I pursue a mission to achieve educational justice, I am determined to advocate in favor of those from economically disadvantaged families. I would like to find a way to combine the work of family advocacy and education advocacy so that I may better support marginalized families.
