USGBC’s Market Leadership Advisory Boards (MLABs) are groups of dedicated professionals who volunteer their time, resources and expertise to support USGBC’s mission in their local markets. Mayor Mark Stodola formed the Little Rock Sustainability Commission (LRSC) in the spring of 2008. April was elected as the first Chair and again for the subsequent three years. The LRSC works to promote and support sustainability in the City of Little Rock by serving as a liaison between the Citizens of Little Rock and the City of Little Rock’s City Manager, Mayor, Board Directors, and Departments on matters related to sustainability. Membership is supported by city staff and consists of seven to fifteen residents of Little Rock and up seven ex-officio members, both appointed by Mayor Mark Stodola. Arkansas Earth Day Foundation is a non-profit, local coalition of concerned families, inspired seekers, elected leaders, and responsible businesses working to increase community awareness of environmental issues and access to sustainable solutions through education, events, recycling, networking, products and services. Arkansas Earth Day Foundation began as Conway Earth Day Foundation and was founded by April Ambrose in collaboration with the Arkansas Center for the Study of Integrative Medicine. The Foundation offers an annual festival: Arkansas Earth Day Festival is an educational festival jam-packed with fun and interactive experiences designed to provide hopeful solutions that will motivate Arkansans and their families to positive action. The first festival in 2004 only had an attendance of 300, but over the next five years it grew in size to an attendance of almost 15000.

The Arkansas Climate Awareness Project (ARCAP) is a broad-based, nonpartisan effort to inform Arkansans about how global warming threatens our state and how we can actually gain economically from seriously addressing the problem. www.arclimate.org

Betsy Hendricks MD has been in private practice since 1999. The focus of her practice is on helping people with chronic and/or difficult to evaluate and treat conditions. She treats people with many conditions including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, thyroid conditions and autism. She is especially interested in the common themes that occur in fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and autism spectrum disorders.While at the AR Center, April helped Dr. Hendricks manage WorldTree Nutrition - a supplement shop, manage the clinic, and start two non-profits: Conway Earth Day and SageSpring Foundation. April's interest was in showcasing the relationship between health and the environment.

The Natural Food Store was opened in 1991 as a result of Perry Ambrose's growing interest in natural health and healing. He is now a Certified Nutritionist as well. This is the family business. Thus, April worked as a clerk at the store every summer while in college. For two years after college graduation she managed the store's daily operations, including ordering, inventory management, advertising, cleaning, stocking, customer service, events, company representatives/brokers, financial transactions, employee training and delegation, website, print marketing, and customer newsletter.
