There's nothing better than working on projects that benefits the preservation of humanity, and at ChargePoint, I got to help shape the future of mobility, aiding our transition to EV's!I architected and designed the new transformer assembly for the DC power module to reduce cost, improve assembly and augment its thermal performance. With the new design, I was able to cut off many steps in the assembly (e.g vacuum potting) by proposing a more direct cooling solution to shorten the transformer to heat sink thermal path. I also made the system cheaper by designing a sheet metal enclosure and clamping features to keep assembly compact.I conducted IPX5 and NEMA tests and presented results to verify Power Block water ingress protection, and suggest solutions with minimal ID impact.I designed and built high-current ~500A test fixtures for new liquid cooled cable prototype validation; I also interfaced with vendors in China to approve DFM for the parts. During my design, I was able to develop a calculator for copper busbar thermal design and sizing, incorporating all necessary variables, which was validated by my experiments. The calculator is now circulated company-wide.I validated the liquid cooling manifold concept design for a future 500kW system using ANSYS Icepak to ensure uniform coolant distribution across power modules and quantitatively compare the performance of the various manifold concepts. My work helped pave the pathway for design choice.I helped architect and design a new concept for a future 3-phase AC product’s locking holster mechanism to mitigate issues with the system jamming and improve energy efficiency. I owned and drove this project to completion and assembly of the test prototype. I also developed a template for the Design of Experiments (DOE).I independently designed jigs to mitigate errors in the power module production site. I led technical discussions for possible solution iterations to arrive at a working prototype.

I led the team (Team Realize!) sponsored by Sandia to design and fabricate a Mechanical Switch that actuates under vacuum for Sandia's exploratory sounding rockets. The device also had to sense a successful launch before the electrical channel was energized, which led to the development of a two-part solution that incorporated a fully mechanically actuated switch and an electronic system.I led technical discussions with research engineers from Sandia to ensure proper understanding of design and functionality requirements including: form factor, operating range, weight limitations, and device integration.I defined our solution and developed the system level architecture, including electrical and mechanical systems design and how they interacted. I fully designed the mechanical vacuum switch, which used air as the working fluid and a compression spring to control actuation.I created part drawings and supervised fabrication processes in the machine shop to ensure parts were made to specifications.I conducted tests on final prototype and calibrated the vacuum switch to function in the relevant operating range.I was a part of the final design presentation and prototype demo to faculty and sponsors at Sandia National Laboratories.
