Network Technician Ii702 Communications Apr 2002 - Sep 2016I started my work with 702 Communications as a Help Desk Technician. This involved troubleshooting customer’s internet connection issues with both dialup and DSL connections. Other duties included occasional web development, minor configuration and handling of Cisco entry level routers, occasional personal computer assembly and configuration, and other various network/software setup duties as needed. Other duties included occasional web development, minor configuration and handling of Cisco entry level routers, occasional personal computer assembly and configuration, and other various network/software setup duties as needed. I later was moved to a DSL Installation position which involved visiting customer’s locations and installing, wiring and configuring DSL Modems for use on our services. This position also required me to learn the basic ins and outs of telecom phone lines, as well as Central Office wiring of power as well as interconnections between our Central Office equipment.From this position I was moved into a R&D Specialist position. This position was used to explore the latest and greatest technology that was available at the time, evaluate it, and discuss the probability and actions required to implementing it into our network. This position also involved traveling to various trade shows and representing our company on our search for new technology.I was then moved into a Network Technician position in the Network Operations Center at 702 Communications. My duties involved handling of T1/DS3/OCx circuit building, teardown and troubleshooting on Cisco 15454 as well as Nortel Networks TransportNode OC-48 NE units. Duties also included wiring and troubleshooting of Carrier Access Corporation Widebank 28 MUX units, as well as other various MUX/DeMUX equipment including DWDM and CWDM units in our Central Office. Along with my transport duties, I also helped out processing daily switch orders on our Nortel DMS-10, CopperComm, and MetaSwitch telephone switches. I was also responsible for purchasing of various spare cards and replacement equipment as needed.I then was upgraded to a Network Technician II position which added project management and other lead duties. I held this position for almost a year before my position was changed to PC Coordinator. My new duties included upgrading of PC equipment, troubleshooting PC problems, and overlooking a user base of about 90 PC users, and 4 Macintosh users in both Fargo and Minot.
