About Eben Van Wyk, Cfa

My role is to manage direct Global and Australian quantitative Equity portfolios in support of our internalisation program. This provides highly scalable alpha and strong risk management at the core of our rapidly growing ~$80bn fund. I strive to do well for our members in maximising their retirement outcomes while carefully managing market risks with best in practice active systematic investing techniques.Since December 2022 I have been leading quantitative Equity portfolio management and research at CBUS to further enhance and expand their internalisation program. Previously I spent seven years at Aware Super to developed their own systematic investing platform, which enabled testing and implementation of highly customised Equity solutions (including active, defensive, tax enhanced, ESG, etc). During this time I developed and managed their first internal Equity fund, and went on to develop two more funds which strongly outperformed their investment objectives. At the time of my departure we managed over $12bn within my team in direct global systematic equity strategies. Apart from managing portfolios, my role includes research leadership to constantly improve our investment processes and to develop new investment products/funds. I also enjoy getting involved in data science and machine learning projects in other parts of the business to improve our service to fund members.
