I spent my entire legal career at White & Case, joining the firm following graduation from law school in 1981. Six years later I was elected a partner of White & Case. I am a banking and finance lawyer, with an emphasis on complex leveraged finance transactions in multiple jurisdictions. For most of my career I was based in our New York offices. I led White & Case’s Global Banking Practice for twenty years. Our banking lawyers understand the complexities of global transactions and apply their knowledge and experience across markets to structure innovative deals for our clients. I advised clients on structuring and negotiating their most complex finance transactions, including many landmark deals that influenced the direction of the leveraged finance market. I have extensive experience in hostile takeovers, as well as in negotiated public and private acquisitions, leveraged buyouts and recapitalizations. I regularly led asset-based, investment and near-investment-grade finance deals, and handled a variety of workout and restructuring transactions. I served on the firm’s Management Board for seven years, during which time I was active in building our banking and related practices in London and was actively involved in negotiating our combination with a large German law firm. Following the combination, for 6 years I acted as the Firm’s designated integration partner for Germany. In January 2015 I relocated to Hong Kong and Singapore and for five years served as Head of Asia-Pacific for White & Case, focusing on regional strategy, client relationships, and the growth and development of the Firm’s practices across the region. I was dedicated to strengthening our offices and practice offerings in Asia-Pacific and making each of our offices a workplace of choice. Asia-Pacific is a key market for White & Case. Following my arrival in 2015, we expanded our presence with new offices in Australia, Indonesia and Korea and added partners to strengthen our core practices, including a market-leading project development and finance team and a thriving Asia-wide mergers and acquisitions and private equity team. I have been recognized for many years as a preeminent banking lawyer by numerous publications, both in the United States and more recently in Asia. I was named an Eminent Practitioner for China Banking & Finance by Chambers Asia-Pacific, and received "Emerging Markets Firm Leader of the Year – International" award at the Asian Lawyer Emerging Markets Awards in 2016. On December 31, 2019 I retired as an active partner from White & Case.
