Secretary, Mercer Island High School. Identify and work with students who are of attendance concern with the goal of improving attendance. I engage students, parents, teachers, counselors, the community, and administrators to best support students.Developed an absenteeism intervention system built in PBIS, MTSS, and trauma-informed practices. Tracked and aliased student data to look for patterns. The goal was to be doing preventive work.I was fortunate enough to attend a multi-year equity, diversity, and inclusion training which was very informative and eye opening. I also did a lot of informal self-directed study on adolescent mental health and brain development to support the most positive outcomes of my students. You know the drill, it’s really all about relationships and rapport. A great teacher told us, if students WANT to come to school, they will. The data tell us a connection to an adult is the best protective factor from absenteeism. Prevention is better than the cure, so I figured it made the most sense to do my best to be understanding and be responsive to my students. This lead to candy giveaways and bubble machines. I did para work at elementary and middle school levels and taught at elementary school. I think that was mostly due to lack of knowledge of subject matter and experience as my abilities to relate to and guide youth of any age are strong. I did go on to work at a high school immediately after this after all.

Designed curricula for and lead a week-long photography camp. Ate challah. Managed staff, transportation arrangements, and responded to/supervised handling of incidents and injuries for a multitude of off-site trips for our largest camps. No participants were lost nor damaged under my supervision.

Junior Novice Crew Coach, Mount Baker Rowing and Sailing Center. Introduced youths to crew and developed skills to prepare for competition. This was a really special role where we chose to align our squad around positive youth development over competition victory. We centered our definitions of success around teamwork, collaboration, stewardship, empathy, accountability, and responsibility. Technique was extremely important too. Master Rowing Coach. Instructed adult beginners and continuing athletes to refine technique.
