About Dr. Obinna Ebirim

Dr. Obinna Ebirim is a public health professional, health promotion specialist, and medic with over 10 years experience. His diverse background includes roles as a physician, technical assistant to a subnational health policy maker, health advocate, campaigner and public health expert in local and international private, public, and non-governmental organisations.Dr. Ebirim has contributed significantly to vital initiatives, such as implementing immunisation programmes, strengthening primary health care (PHC) systems, and leading conditional cash transfers (CCTs) programmes. He has conducted vaccine uptake and financing advocacy activities, led capacity building initiatives, ran online and offline health campaigns, supported research implementation, and provided social care for individuals with disabilities. Also, his experience encompasses supporting higher education governance, participating in strategy sessions, and managing patients in clinical settings.Dr. Ebirim leads the Demand-side Incentives (DSIs) project to address immunisation challenges in Cameroon, DRC, Lesotho, and Nigeria as Senior Programme Associate at Corona Management Systems (CMS). In Sept. 2023, he was appointed a member of the infectious disease campaign advisory group at Wellcome Trust for a one-year term. He is a Partnerships Advisor at HealthLearn and the Co-Founder of IDYL Initiative. Obinna’s community leadership and service in Nigeria led to his selection by the United States Department for the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. Obinna is a former National Coordinator at New Incentives, former Senior Advocacy Officer at Niyel...change creators, and past member of the Board of Governors at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland. He contributed to the development of Nigeria's Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2021 - 2025 and Nigeria Agenda 2050, as a Health & Nutrition Technical Working Group member.Beyond his professional endeavours, Dr. Ebirim is committed to his family and community. He is married to a Pharmacist, and the union is blessed with a son and daughter. In this role, the organization completed the RCT phase of program implementation and expanded programming from 98 clinics to 713 clinics with over 300 Nigerian staff. All Babies Are Equal Initiative (ABAE) is the Nigerian arm of US Organization, New Incentives (NI). NI-ABAE implements a conditional cash transfers for routine immunization (CCTs for RI) program. It utilizes a package of evidence-based interventions including community mobilization, sensitization, and conditional cash transfer (CCT) to bring about positive health behavioral change. A Randomized Control Trial (RCT) impact evaluation found out that NI-ABAE’s program increased immunization coverage in children; 16 percentage points increase in coverage of BCG vaccine, 21 percentage points increase in coverage of Pentavalent vaccine, 14 percentage points increase in coverage of Measles vaccine, and 27 percentage points increase in fully immunized (BCG, Penta 1-3, and Measles) children.
