As the program manager, I was in charge of all aspects of the Roots and Horizons mentoring program. This included everything from the privilege of managing a talented staff of 7 to conducting media interviews to developing fund-raising strategies. When my time started at the program, there were less than 10 mentoring matches. Upon leaving the program, my team and I had built a program with more than 40 matches and 40 kids on the waiting list. I was in charge of all hiring and firing decisions at the program and also developed new marketing and recruitment strategies that were implemented throughout Rancho Cordova and Folsom. Grant writing and funding development were also key part of my job and I was the lead author in preparing and winning multiple local grants.

I was the second person hired at the Roots and Horizons mentoring program in Rancho Cordova and helped to build the program from the ground up. As a program coordinator, I was responsible for providing mentoring match support, developing a recruitment strategy, preparing marketing materials and planning program events. I also played a key role in writing reports and evaluations that were provided to our federal funding partners.

At CAL-SOAP, I equipped and guided diverse group of over 50 junior high students in various academic subjects. This job included organizing and documenting monthly reports for state funding. I also was tasked with tracking students’ progress to meet program goals and metrics.
